Semi-Automatic Image Segmentation for Volumetric Visualization of Pelvis CT Scan-Images. The currentdevelopment of computerized tomography (CT) has enable us to obtain cross sectional image using multi slicingtechniques in an order of few seconds. The obtained images represent several tissue structures on cross section slicebeing imaged. One challenge to help diagnosis using CT images is extracting an anatomic structure of interest using amethod of image segmentation and volumetric visualization with the assistance of computers. In case of volumetricvisualization of pelvis bones extracted from multi-slice CT images, whole images which are containing part of pelvisbone structures must be segmented. In this research, an image segmentation technique based on active contour isimplemented for semi-automatic multi slice image segmentation. Image segmentation steps are initialized with a definemodel of 2D curve on the first slice image manually. Next, its model curve is deformed to reach the final result of 2Dcurve that fits to boundary edges of pelvis bone image. The final result of 2D curve on previous slice image was used asan initialization model of 2D curve on the next slice images. This process will continue until the final slice image. Thissegmentation method was compared with the segmentation method based on threshold from homogenous intensitydistribution and manual segmentation method. Quantitative analysis from the results of segmentation on each slice andqualitative analysis on the representation of volumetric visualization are performed in this research

Cardiovascular diseases are the world’s leading cause of death with significant death rates caused by abnormalities in vessels such as aneurysms and stenosis. These conditions can potentially cause blockage and thinning of vessels which may lead to heart attack, stroke, and bleedings. Recently, computational simulation methods are frequently used in blood flow analysis. These methods are frequently used in vascular fluid dynamics analysis which relate to the origin of a disease, efficacy prediction in installation of therapeutic instruments and complements the in vitro studies. This article presents an example of a simple vascular simulation to study the effect of blood flow with respect to vascular wall displacement. Furthermore, this research shows the importance of formal CFD pre-processing such as mesh independence testing which influences the simlation accuracy as well as vascular flow prediction and its effects on vascular wall displacement. In this research, it is concluded that the number of mesh elements affects the accuracy of vascular wall shear stress (WSS) calculations with average WSS difference of 0.8 Pa with no significant difference in wall displacement values. An average WSS of 1.95 Pa and a wall displacement of 5.7 µm are obtained from the blood flow simulation in this study

Latent and Eggs Production of Banggai Cardinal (Pterapogon Kauderni, Koumans 1933) on Various Salinity Levels: Conservation Efforts

The aim of this study is to determine the best salinity level on latent and eggs production of Banggai Cardinal (Pterapogon kauderni Koumans 1993) based on first brood and brood production of Banggai Cardinal in the treatment. Water quality measurement was carried out every day to maintain water quality. Water quality measurement showed suitable salinity for Banggai Cardinal breeding. Brood latent showed no significant difference between the treatments. Total of 27 ppt is the level of salinity for Banggai Cardinal reproduction to gain positive respond on eggs production (42.3333 ± 7 eggs)

A study on community attitudes in environmental pollution has been conducted in Jakarta. The purpose of this study was to provide information about community attitudes in solving environmental pollution problems. A total sample of 240 households were selected from 5 districts of Jakarta. Most of the respondents (51.7%) passed the elemtary school. However, only 59.6% of the 240 respondents knew about environmental pollution while only 23.8% had a good knowledge about these problems. Others (40.4%) knew nothing about environmental pollution. Environmental conditions showed that 97.4% of the houses were clean and 87.5% had human waste facilities but only 42.5% of the respondents had waste containers

Waste is one of the major problems in various countries in the world, one of which is the waste of marine products, for example clam shells. This waste can be processed into chitin and chitosan. Chitosan alone has a lot of benefits that have relatively high economic value, such as chitosan as a natural source antibacterial that can be effectively produced. Deacetylation degree of chitosan determined by using data from FTIR spectra and the value was 69.11349%. The results showed that there were soluble chitosan with 1% acetic acid. In the antibacterial test of chitosan on E. coli and S. aureus showed inhibition zone on agar medium. Chitosan provided large inhibition zones on 0.01 μg/disk and 0.02 μg/disk concentrations , however conditions factor of the media effected the growth of those bacteria. Bacteria E. coli bacterium was more sensitive to salinity than thah of S. aureus, while the S. aureus bacterium is more sensitive to pH than that of E. coli bacterium

Surface electromyography quantification methods for evaluating muscle activity in dysphagia

Quantitative evaluation of stroke patients with the risk of swallowing disorder or dysphagia is required to support diagnosis and further rehabilitation planning. Fluoroscopy X-ray imaging usually is used for swallowing diagnosis, though it gives radiation exposure to patients. Therefore, quantification of muscle coordination patterns involved in swallowing based on surface electromyography (sEMG) was introduced. However, an adequate quantification of sEMG for dysphagia diagnosis still lacks standardization. In this work, potential sEMG signal features, namely the contraction duration (DUR), the time to peak of maximum contraction (TTP), and the total RMS power (TP), were further investigated to evaluate the swallowing processes in healthy subjects and post-stroke patients. The experimental scheme instructed the participant, i.e. 20 healthy subjects and 20 patients, to swallow 3 mL of water in normal swallowing mode and swallow saliva in dry swallowing mode. The proposed signal processing procedure helps to establish the feature extraction of the three features mentioned earlier. For dysphagia assessment, with the support of our proposed signal processing procedure, DUR and TTP can be used together to improve diagnosis reliability. The characteristic of both features in healthy subjects was shorter than in post-stroke patients. Also, the TP feature is useful as additional information to evaluate the role of suprahyoid (SUP) and infrahyoid (INF) muscle groups which are very important in the swallowing process. These results are promising to provide a reliable set of features in the time domain for swallowing analysis. Notably, this can also be utilized as a feature for supporting the automatic classification of dysphagia diagnosis

Dual-mode 3D printed dynamic wrist driven orthosis for hand therapy exercises

    Get PDF
The primary objective of the Dual-mode Dynamic Wrist Driven Orthosis (D-WDO) is to facilitate wrist-hand therapy exercises for patients with varying levels of residual muscle function. This dual-mode D-WDO system comprises two main components: the orthosis structure and the soft pneumatic actuator (SPA). All system components were designed and produced using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and the Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D printing technique. The D-WDO’s structure is constructed from PLA (Polylactic Acid), while the SPA is made from TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) filament. The D-WDO can be operated in passive or active mode by attaching or detaching the SPA from the structure. This D-WDO system is particularly suitable for patients with a minimum MMT level between 2 and 3, as it provides assistance for wrist movement and supports repetitive wrist motion to enhance wrist muscle function. However, it is important to note that the operation and performance of the dual-mode D-WDO system may vary depending on the chosen system configuration. The active D-WDO’s performance demonstrates its ability to achieve the necessary wrist flexion angle for a functional wrist joint, especially in the context of daily activities
